Word of the Week

Our word for the week is penance. After a penitent makes their confession, their confessor might assign them acts of penance as a sign of repentance, amendment of life, and thanksgiving for absolution.

Ordination of the Rev’d Santana Bartoldus

Our new assistant rector the Rev’d Santana Bartoldus, currently a deacon, will be ordained to the priesthood at 11am on Saturday, June 27th at the Cathedral of the Incarnation (University Pkwy at Charles St). We hope many of you will be able to come and support her, and celebrate with her, on this momentous occasion!

Celebrate with the Lyonses and Simons

Sylvia Lyons and Shai Simon will be baptized at the 10am service on June 28th, and the Lyonses and Simons invite the entire congregation to join them for a light luncheon after the service (in lieu of coffee hour) downstairs in the Great Hall.

Outreach: Paul’s Place Casserole Ministry This Weekend

Our Paul’s Place Outreach ministry meets this weekend in the kitchen downstairs to make casseroles for the people of Paul’s Place in Washington Village/Pigtown. To join the Saturday 10am-noon prep session, click here. To join the Sunday after church assembly session, click here. If you’re interested in volunteering at Paul’s Place, either serving the casseroles or doing something else, several parishioners volunteer there and would love to tell you more about it. Contact Chip or Fr. Todd to connect!

Summer Choir

Join Director of Music Douglas Buchanan and two section leaders at 9am on Sunday mornings to learn a low-stress piece which we will sing during the Offertory. This is a casual opportunity to make friends through music and offer our gifts in the service; it’s fine if you don’t have much experience singing or making music. There’s no audition to join, and you aren’t required to be present every single Sunday. If you’re interested, contact Dr. Doug.

Mtr. Santana’s Contact Info

Mtr. Santana’s email address is up and running. Mtr. Santana, her husband Brian, and their daughter Maggie have moved to Baltimore and have been added to the parish directory. If you’ve never used the parish directory before, it’s very easy to use! Go to the Instant Church Directory website or download the app (the icon is a white silhouette of a church inside a yellow square) onto your phone to create your login. It will connect you to the St. David’s directory by your email address, so create your login with the email address you think we have. If it doesn’t recognize your email address, contact Fr. Todd; either we have a different address or have made a typo! If you want to print out a pdf of the directory, you’ll need to email Fr. Todd for the file and the password; don’t hesitate, he’s happy to send it to you and it only takes a second.

Parish Retreat

The theme of our parish retreat will be “Holy Hospitality,” facilitated by Dr. James Buckley of Loyola University Maryland. There will be time for learning, fellowship and relaxation, and worship led by Bishop Rabb, Fr. Todd, and Mtr. Santana. The retreat will be held Oct 2nd-4th at the Claggett Center, south of Frederick; it’s a very fine space with all rooms en-suite, comfortable gathering spaces, and a beautiful natural setting. The cost is $450 for a single room and $385 (per person) for a double. To register, contact Kelly in the Church Office; make checks payable to St. David’s Church, memo “Retreat.” ~ Bishop Rabb

Sunday Mornings for Children

Our professionally-staffed Nursery is open from 9am until noon. Your kids can be there throughout the service or you can go down and get them at the offertory so that they can join you for Communion.

We all need a break sometimes. We’ll be broadcasting the 10am service live on the TV in the Great Hall downstairs. If your child needs to let it out, feel free to go down there and take a break and be as loud as you need to be, or run around in circles, and still not miss any of the service!
