Word of the Week
Our word for the week is Prayers of the People. We use several of the forms provided in the Prayer Book, and we also sometimes use the Suffrages from the Daily Office as our Prayers of the People.
Evensong & Recital This Sunday
This Sunday, June 7th, at 4:30pm, join the Choir of St. David’s, baritone Rahzé Sinclair, and pianist Lior Leigh in our annual celebration of Pride Month. The program centers Queer composers, performers, and experiences, including Benjamin Britten’s choral masterwork Hymn to St. Cecilia. The recital lasts for half an hour, and then the artist joins us for Evensong.
Outreach: Paul’s Place Casserole Ministry This Weekend
Our Paul’s Place Outreach ministry meets this weekend in the kitchen downstairs to make casseroles for the people of Paul’s Place in Washington Village/Pigtown. To join the Saturday 10am-noon prep session, click here. To join the Sunday after church assembly session, click here. If you’re interested in volunteering at Paul’s Place, either serving the casseroles or doing something else, several parishioners volunteer there and would love to tell you more about it. Contact Chip or Fr. Todd to connect!
Welcome to St. David’s!
While you don’t have to be a member to worship and participate in activities here, we certainly welcome people officially joining the congregation. People join the congregation by baptism or by transfer from another church. If you would like more information or have questions about joining St. David’s, email Fr. Todd.
New Members in April and May
By Baptism: Nellie Simmons, Ayers Scully, and Charlie Dominelli
By Transfer: Juliette Knapp Washburn, Lukas Chandler & Steven Langerman, the Rev’d Neil O’Farrell & Stephen Sattler
Outreach: Community Dinner at Barclay School
Our Outreach Committee is exploring new partnerships and activities for our congregation to serve our neighbors, and we’re exploring a relationship with the Barclay School, a Title I school near St. David’s. We’re looking for some volunteers to help us serve dinner at the 29th Street Community Center/Barclay School from 6pm to 8:15pm on Tuesday, June 16th. The Outreach Committee will organize the food, but we need helping hands! If you’re interested, contact Susan Larson, Kate Kenny, or Mary Galvin Wilson.
Summer Choir
Starting June 7th, the Summer Choir returns! During the summer, join Director of Music Douglas Buchanan and two section leaders at 9am on Sunday mornings to learn a low-stress piece which we will sing during the Offertory. This is a casual opportunity to make friends through music and offer our gifts in the service; it’s fine if you don’t have much experience singing or making music. There’s no audition to join, and you aren’t required to be present every single Sunday. You can fill out an interest form and availability survey here.
Diocesan Pride
The Baltimore PRIDE Parade is June 13th this year, and the Diocese of Maryland is partnering with Old St. Paul’s downtown to march in the parade. If you’re interested in attending and marching with the Diocese, you can register here and they will send details to you.
St. David’s Strollers
The St. David’s Strollers will meet in front of the church at 3:30pm on the 2nd Sunday of the month (June 14th, July 12th, August 9th). We typically walk for 30-45 minutes on Stony Run. Bring your friends and kids and dogs (on leash)! We welcome ideas for other walks and outdoor projects.
Ordination of the Rev’d Santana Bartoldus
Our new assistant rector the Rev’d Santana Bartoldus, currently a deacon, will be ordained to the priesthood at 11am on Saturday, June 27th at the Cathedral of the Incarnation (University Pkwy at Charles St). We hope many of you will be able to come and support her, and celebrate with her, on this momentous occasion!
Notes from Outreach
St. David’s Outreach Committee met on Tuesday, June 2nd. We discussed the upcoming community dinner at Barclay Elementary School om June 16th; see the newsletter entry above for info on how you can volunteer. A group of parishioners has been volunteering at St Luke’s Youth Center afterschool program, and we would welcome more volunteers. St. David’s is again partnering with Holy Nativity, Pimlico to supply backpacks and school supplies to children in need; they’ve told us that what they need most is money so that they can order in bulk, so St. David’s is contributing $1000 from our outreach budget. If you want to drop off supplies, you can, and we will take them to Holy Nativity for distribution. The Outreach Committee meets the first Tuesday of each month at 4pm in the Vestry Room and all are welcome to come. ~ Holly Crosby
Save the Date – Parish Retreat
Save the date for our parish retreat, October 2nd-4th this year! This is our second parish retreat and our theme will be “Holy Hospitality,” facilitated by Dr. James Buckley of Loyola University Maryland. The retreat will be held at the Claggett Center, south of Frederick; it’s a very fine space with all rooms en-suite, comfortable gathering spaces, and a beautiful natural setting. There will be time for learning, fellowship and relaxation. Fr. Todd, Lloyd Burdette, Liz Insley, and Bishop John and Sharon Rabb are the team planning the retreat with Dr. Buckley. Look for more information soon on registration, cost, and other details. It will be a wonderful time to connect, discover, and relax! ~ Bishop Rabb
Congratulations, Graduates!
Lucia Antonio, daughter of Judy Prosper, graduated from Rivier University (BSN cum laude) and is moving to Baltimore (happy mom!) to begin her career as a registered nurse at Johns Hopkins.
Helen Burdette, daughter of Lloyd & Tim Burdette, graduated from Eckerd College with a degree in biology in December but walked this spring, and is considering what comes next (and hoping it involves frogs).
Cecilia Collins, daughter of Michael & Tracy Collins, is graduating from Maryvale and heading to the University of Maryland this fall, which, Fr. Todd has pointed out, is close enough that she could come back and serve as crucifer occasionally.
Clare Gocke, daughter of Anne & Christian Gocke, is graduating from Notre Dame Prep and heading to Elon University this fall.
Josh Peters, son of Suzanne Hurst & Sam Peters, graduated from UVA with a BS in statistics and a BA in economics; in July, he will move to DC for a job with a government contracts company managing supply chains.
Caroline Rice, daughter of Elizabeth & Ken Rice, graduated from Wake Forest with a business degree and is moving to sunny Scottsdale, Arizona to work for General Mills.
Bennett Rosenblatt, son of Michelle Newberry & Samuel Rosenblatt, is graduating from the Jemicy School and will be attending The Ohio State University this fall.

Is someone in your household graduating this spring/summer? We’d love to hear about it and share your joy. Email Fr. Todd and let him know who graduated with what from where, and what they’re doing next!
Sunday Mornings for Children
Our professionally-staffed Nursery is open from 9am until noon. Your kids can be there throughout the service or you can go down and get them at the offertory so that they can join you for Communion.
We all need a break sometimes. We’ll be broadcasting the 10am service live on the TV in the Great Hall downstairs. If your child needs to let it out, feel free to go down there and take a break and be as loud as you need to be, or run around in circles, and still not miss any of the service!
Please Pray For:
