Word of the Week
Our word of the week is anamnesis. The anamnesis is part of most Eucharistic prayers, usually following the Words of Institution; in it, we remember what God has done for us in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as the foundation of our praise and worship.
Outreach: Paul’s Place Casserole Ministry This Weekend
Our Paul’s Place Outreach ministry meets this weekend in the kitchen downstairs to make casseroles for the people of Paul’s Place in Washington Village/Pigtown. To join the Saturday 10am-noon prep session, click here. To join the Sunday after church assembly session, click here. If you’re interested in volunteering at Paul’s Place, either serving the casseroles or doing something else, several parishioners volunteer there and would love to tell you more about it. Music at St. David’s, Concert September 6th
The Friends of Early Music kicks off the 2026-2027 Music at St. David’s series on Sunday, September 6th, at 4pm with “A Musical Portrait of Iran.” The program, curated by Sarah Shodja, will feature period and traditional instruments, including the daf, oud, and santoor. The event is free and open to the public, with doors opening at 3:30pm. A suggested donation of $10-$20 directly benefits the Friends of Early Music.
Pizza & Popsicles on the Playground
You might have noticed over the past year, and even over this summer, an increase in the number of children attending St. David’s Church. There are also a lot of new babies, and more on the way. To help all these families get to know one another, we’ll be hosting a pizza and popsicle party on the playground on the evening of Friday, September 11th for all the families with children in Sunday School and nursery, for families who will have children in the Sunday School and nursery, for families who want to have children in the Sunday School and nursery, and for folks in that same age range who don’t want children at all, but would be happy to get to know some of their peers here at St. David’s. Fr. Todd sent out an evite last week to the folks he thinks are in these groups; if you didn’t receive it, check your junk mail, and contact him so he can make sure the evite gets to you.
Sunday School for Children Registration Form
Sunday School classes for children and adults return on Sunday, September 13th. Adults don’t need to register, but we do ask parents to register their children so that we have emergency contact numbers, allergy info, etc. You can fill out the registration form online by clicking here, or you can download the registration form by clicking here and email it to Corky Hovermill or mail it back to the church office (4700 Roland Ave, 21210), attention Corky Hovermill. We’ll also have blank forms available the first time you drop your kids off.
St. David’s Sunday Strollers
The St. David’s Sunday Strollers are back! Join us on Sunday, September 13th, at 3pm for a 30–45-minute walk on Stony Run. Meet in front of the church at 3pm. Everyone is welcome, including kids, and it’s a great way to get some exercise and enjoy some conversation with walking buddies. Dogs are welcome, too, on leash please. See you then!
Parish Ladies’ Night, Sept 17th
Jane Kennedy and Judith Proctor are hosting the first St. David’s Ladies’ Night for 2026-2027 on Thursday, September 17th, from 6pm-8pm at Judith’s house, 7817 Ellenham Avenue in Ruxton. Please come, invite a friend and bring a beverage for you, and to share! Parking in driveway or on the street and carpooling is always a popular option! Please RSVP to co-hostess Jane Kennedy.
Nametags
If you haven’t requested a nametag yet (or if you’re having a hard time with your magnet and want a pinback nametag), request one by clicking this link; magnets are the default, so if you want a pinback, make sure you note that (there’s a question at the end of the form). It’s ok to have more than one nametag – we have plenty, and we can always order more! Give Kelly a week or two after submitting your request and then look for them on the little table against the back wall of the church between the north entrance and the pew. If you don’t see yours, just let Fr. Todd know and he’ll find it.
Parish Retreat
The theme of our parish retreat will be “Holy Hospitality,” facilitated by Dr. James Buckley of Loyola University Maryland. There will be time for learning, fellowship and relaxation, and worship led by Bishop Rabb, Fr. Todd, and Mtr. Santana. The retreat will be held Oct 2nd-4th at the Claggett Center, south of Frederick; it’s a very fine space with all rooms en-suite, comfortable gathering spaces, and a beautiful natural setting. Confirmation 2026
The Rt. Rev’d Carrie Schofield-Broadbent, Bishop of Maryland, will be visiting us on Sunday, December 13th, 2026. She will be offering the rite of confirmation and reception at the 10am service that day. Confirmation is for folks who are baptized and are ready to make a mature affirmation of their faith. We’ve had many adult confirmands here at St. David’s in addition to youth confirmands. The diocesan “minimum recommended age” is 15, but I will make exceptions for youth as young as 12, just talk to me! If you were confirmed already as a Roman Catholic, ELCA Lutheran, or Eastern Orthodox, or were baptized as adults, will be received rather than being confirmed. Those confirmed in churches outside of the historic apostolic succession (churches other than the ones named above) will be confirmed in The Episcopal Church. There will be classes; we’ll choose a time once we know who is wanting to be confirmed or received. The first step is to fill out this form and let us know you’re interested!
Sunday Mornings for Children
Our professionally-staffed Nursery is open from 9am until noon. Your kids can be there throughout the service or you can go down and get them at the offertory so that they can join you for Communion.
We all need a break sometimes. We’ll be broadcasting the 10am service live on the TV in the Great Hall downstairs. If your child needs to let it out, feel free to go down there and take a break and be as loud as you need to be, or run around in circles, and still not miss any of the service!
